WARWICK, RI — A body has been recovered from Narragansett Bay after a person was reported missing following a kayaking excursion Sunday afternoon, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management confirmed to Patch Monday afternoon.

Chant had last been seen launching his boat from Conimicut Point in Warwick around noon, the outlet reported.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management told Patch that a 911 call was first made around 5:13 p.m., and officials found the kayak partly submerged about 30 feet offshore at 6:43 p.m.
Without confirming a name, officials said the kayaker was found dead about five feet from the shore.

“A family member of the victim called the victim’s phone using a find-your-phone app and first responders were able to coordinate the ping from that call to the exact location where the victim was found,” officials wrote in a statement shared with Patch.
Officials added that the victim was wearing a life jacket and heavy clothes and that weather conditions last night were “very breezy,” which brought about choppy water.
Water temperatures were between the high 30s and low 40s, they said.
No additional information was immediately available.
