Walnut Creek Police K9 Timber Sports New Protective Vest

WALNUT CREEK, CA — K9 Timber of the Walnut Creek Police Department is safer thanks to a new body armor vest.

The bullet- and stab-protective vest was a charitable donation to the Walnut Creek Police Department from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The vest has an embroidery in memory of Golden, Colorado Police Department’s K9 Graffit, whose end of watch was Feb. 13, 2023, when he was shot and killed in the line of duty.

Vested Interest In K9s was established in 2009 and is a nonprofit charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S.-made, custom-fitted, and NIJ-certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,514 vests valued at over $6.9 million to canines in all 50 U.S. states. The nonprofit’s work is made possible by both private and corporate donations.

Each vest is valued at $1,800, weighs 4-5 pounds, and has a five-year warranty.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
