NJ Infant Mauled To Death By Pit Bull Buried On Friday

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — The three-month-old baby boy who was mauled to death by a pit bull last Saturday in Woodbridge was buried Friday morning.

The infant was buried Friday morning at St. Gertrude cemetery in Colonia, according to his obituary. Funeral services were handled by Flynn and Son Funeral Home in Fords.

The dog attack happened last Saturday, March 9, inside a private home on Mereline Avenue in Avenel. Police say right around 6 a.m. the family dog, a pit bull, attacked the baby. The infant’s mother and father, both home at the time, intervened and tried to stop the attack.

The father was not injured, but the infant’s mother was “seriously” injured by the pit bull, said a spokeswoman for Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. The parents were taken to a hospital for treatment and released from the hospital that same day.

The newborn baby was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog has since been euthanized by a veterinarian.

The names of the baby’s parents have not been released by law enforcement, as they have not been charged with a crime. Prosecutor Ciccone called this “a tragic incident.”
