Netflix Reuniting Steve Carell With The Office Co-Creator for ‘Space Force’ Series

Netflix announced Wednesday a new series from The Office creator Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, called Space Force.

The series is inspired by the Federal Government’s announcement of wanting to create a sixth branch of the military, which would be titled “Space Force.”

Netflix’s teaser reads:  “The goal of the new branch is to ‘defend satellites from attack’ and ‘perform other space-related tasks’…or something. This is the story of the men and women who have to figure it out.”

Carell is set to star in Netflix’s Space Force and co-created the series with Daniels. The show is a straight-to-series order and will be a workplace comedy focused around the people who are tasked with creating the new branch of the armed forces, Space Force.

Daniels and Carell will both executive produce, along with The Office producer, Howard Klein.

The episode count is currently unknown and the scripts still need to be written.

THR reports that Carell’s salary for the series – including being co-creator and any executive producer fees – will set a new record for talent and that it will most likely top the $1 million episode pay from the cast of The Big Bang Theory.

Netflix also reportedly pursued Space Force aggressively, as The Office is one of the highest-ranking series’ that Netflix acquired. The show was reportedly not shopped anywhere else.

The Office recently had a mini-reunion on SNL with some of the cast members and John Krasinski said last year that he would be fully on board for an Office reboot of some sort. While we wait for more details of the new comedy-series from The Office guys, read our top 25 Office episodes there ever were.
