The logic presented by Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary and the Vernon Board of Education makes sense. For seven years, the monetary allotment for each classroom has been stagnant at $250.

That money goes not to things like paper and pencils because those types 0f things are accounted for in the $1.7 million supplies and materials line item, but to discretionary items teachers have determined are needed in their rooms.
Macary and the school board agreed that, this time around, the ante should be upped to $300 for each classroom.

“The board decided it was time to increase that number,” Macary said. “This gives the teachers a chance to get something for their classrooms that they really need, and that’s a return on our investment.”
