Basics Plus To Close Upper East Side Location After 13 Years

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Soon, getting your home basics is going to get a lot more complicated.

Longtime homegoods and hardware store Basics Plus is closing for good in February, according to two workers.

The store has been on First Avenue between East 84th and 85th streets for over 13 years and is part of what used to be a large chain throughout Manhattan.

According to East Side Feed, which first reported the closure, Basics Plus closed their Lower East Side location in May.

Workers told Patch on Wednesday that the Upper East Side store’s lease had run out and that they were unable to renew it.

Basics Plus will be holding a 20 percent sale until the end of February, but a worker said the final closing could happen earlier than that.

The next closest Basics Plus location is across town at Broadway and West 84th Street.

But much closer on First Avenue, Rainbow between East 75th and 76th streets offer a similar abundance of home goods.
