Nelson, Feazelle, Andrews, Davis, Romero selected 2018 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Norton’s (Mass.) Kelly Nelson, Steinmetz’s (Chicago, Ill.) Rachael Feazelle, Cedar Ridge’s (Hillsborough, N.C.) Rivers Andrews, Scott County’s (Georgetown, Ky.) Hannah Davis and Academy of Careers & Exploration’s (Helendale, Calif.) Charisma Romero were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played the week of May 7-13.

East Region
Nelson tossed a perfect game and a no-hitter over three starts last week helping Norton capture three victories. The senior hurler struck out all but one batter (20 K) and did not issue a walk in her perfect game against Medfield on May 7. Two days later she twirled a five-inning no-hitter with 13 punchouts against Ashland. Nelson closed out the week with a complete-game, two-hit victory over Holliston. She surrendered a pair of unearned runs, while striking out 15. For the week, Norton was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 48 strikeouts and one walk. She held her opponents to an .033 batting average.

North Region
Feazelle homered six times, slugged an astronomical 2.727 and drove in 16 runs helping Steinmetz to three wins last week. She homered twice and recorded three hits in each contest. Feazelle knocked in a season-best seven runs in a 11-1 win over Westinghouse. She added five more RBI and a triple versus Chicago Academy. Additionally, she struck out 19 and allowed three runs, two earned and three hits in that win. The senior capped off the week with four RBI, a double and three runs scored during a win against North Grand.

South Region
Andrews did not allow a hit, struck out 32 and walked one batter over two starts. The senior hurler tossed two no-hitters and chipped in with three hits and two RBI. Andrews amassed 19 strikeouts with one walk in a seven-inning complete game effort versus Southern Wayne on May 9. She continued her dominance on May 11 with a five inning, 13-strikeout no-hitter in which she faced the minimum 15 batters against West Carteret.

South Central Region
Davis hit. 692 (9-for-13) with three doubles, two triples and two home runs as Scott County picked up four wins last week. She scored 11 runs and knocked in 11 more, while posting .733 on-base and 1.672 slugging percentages. In her final game of the week, Davis missed out on the cycle by a single. She was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, home run, five RBI and three runs scored versus Bryan Station. The senior captain added a double, triple, two RBI and three runs against Franklin County and a double, long ball and three runs versus in game one against Bryan Station.

West Region
In just three games, Romero was 13-for-14 (.929) with four doubles, three triples, a home run, 14 runs and 20 RBI. She recorded .933 on-base and 1.857 slugging percentages. The senior captain was a perfect 5-for-5 with a double, triple nine RBI and five runs scored against Victor Valley Christian. Romero drove in six more, doubled twice, tripled and scored five time versus Apple Valley Christian. She also hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored in a 21-10 win over Lucerne Valley.

The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season with a player from each of five separate high school regions is selected. During the fall campaign, one representative is chosen from the participating regions.
