Paul Drum Life Experience Project Offers Free Summer Fun For Kids
GREENPORT, NY — Once again, the Paul Drum Life Experience Project is ensuring that kids can spend time during their summer vacation enriching their lives.
The Paul Drum Life Experience programs, which are offered free for children ages 7 to 12, are designed to enlighten young minds, said Sharon Sailor, who spearheads the program with her son Paul.
The Paul Drum Life Experience Project, according to the organization’s website, “affords children the opportunity to participate in a vast and diverse array of activities and workshops designed to open their worlds and expand their horizons,” with an eye toward broadening fields of interest, piquing curiosity, and sparking an enthusiasm for learning.

This year’s season takes place at Front Street Station, located at 212 Front Street in Greenport, with classes every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 am.; arrive at 9:45 to check in. Register to secure a spot by emailing [email protected].

July 17: Puppets and Puppet Making with Carmen Campos
July 24: Kite Flying & Art with Bob Jester
July 31: Wildlife in Art Class: Sketch wildlife while learning about the animals.
August 7: StoryFaces: Face painting that tells a story.
August 14: Reptiles: Get up close and personal (safely) with snakes, turtles and more
August 21: Southold Police Fest in Mitchell Park
August 28: Curiously Creative Candles: Make candles with recycled wax.
“It all started with a young man’s enthusiasm. Paul Drum was seeking a way to give back to the generous community who unconditionally accepted and supported him,” the site explained.
Together, Paul’s mom Sailor, as well as Arlene Klein, work together to make the vision a reality.
The free program is designed for children and meets during the summer months. At each weekly session, a new theme of interest is presented and led by an expert in that particular field. The program grows with money provided by donations from the global community, generous sponsors, and “fun-raisers” including the annual “Pirates and Mermaids” breakfast.

Snacks and water are provided, said Sailor, who added that the program is meant to offer a learning experience for kids whose families may be struggling. “Since the economy is bad and things aren’t good — a free thing, sponsored by the Paul Drum Life Experience Project, will let the kids stay busy and expand their horizons.”
