Shortly before noon June 19, officers were called to Aodake Sushi and Steak, 2129 75th St.

According to police, the boss told the 52-year-old employee to turn off the burner for soup on the stove, which upset the suspect. Video showed the 52-year-old picking up a knife from where he was cutting food and waving it around, according to the report. He was about 5 feet away from his boss.

Another employee was seen restraining the suspect and taking the knife from him, police said.

The 52-year-old said his boss yelled at him and then the boss stated he owned a gun. Police said they did not see a gun in the video.

Officers later found the suspect had a gun concealed on himself and that he had valid identification cards for firearm ownership and the right to carry concealed weapons, the report said.

The suspect only spoke Chinese. So police used Google Translate to interview him and then brought over a Chinese-speaking Downers Grove officer.

At one point, the 52-year-old was offered an opportunity to contact the Chinese consulate, but he declined.

Aodake Sushi and Steak fired the 52-year-old and got a no-trespassing order against him, police said.

Darien police later released the man, who called for a cab.
