Murder At Scene75 On Weber Rd Prompts Wrongful Death Lawsuit

JOLIET, IL — A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed at the Will County Courthouse against Scene75 in connection with last June’s gunshot death of Derrick Deon Dillon Jr.

The 19-year-old young man was a patron at the Scene75 entertainment center at 460 S. Weber Road at the time of his death on June 23. A 16-year-old boy also suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds that same night, and 16-year-old Chicago teenager Tavaris Blakemore has been charged in Will County with first-degree murder, Patch reported last year.

According to this week’s lawsuit, Scene75 permitted the 16-year-old Chicago boy, who was the shooter, to be on their premises, and the 16-year-old participated in a fist fight inside the Scene75 business in Romeoville last June.

After the fist fight, and after leaving the entertainment center, the 16-year-old from Chicago retrieved a loaded gun from a car in the parking lot sometime after 5 p.m. The lawsuit contends that Scene75 allowed the 16-year-old boy to reenter Scene75 with the gun after the first fight happened.

Scene75 also allowed the same 16-year-old to enter their building with a gun, even though Scene75 maintained a guardian policy that stated that after 5 p.m., “all youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 25,” the lawsuit indicated.

The 16-year-old Chicago teen then discharged his gun on the premises of Scene75 in Romeoville and Derrick Dillon suffered multiple gunshots and “was caused to die as a result of the multiple gunshot wounds on the premises of Scene 75 Romeoville,” the lawsuit outlined.

Scene75 “failed to exercise reasonable care to discover that gun violence was likely to occur on the premises of Scene75 Romeoville and as such proximately caused the death of plaintiff’s decedent, Derrick Deon Dillon Jr.,” according to the plaintiff’s lawyers.
