Napa Police Investigate Fatal Bicycle Crash

NAPA, CA — The Napa Police Department is investigating a fatal bicycle crash Tuesday night on Wine Country Avenue.

A passerby called 911 at 8:42 p.m. Tuesday to report an approximately 45-year-old man was on the ground and suffering from serious injuries.

The victim was found with a bicycle on the south side of Wine Country Avenue between Dumas Street and Emperor Way. He was treated by emergency medical personnel with the Napa Fire Department and American Medical Response and then airlifted to Queen of the Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Napa Police Department found no other involved parties at the scene.

Patrol officers began an investigation and the Napa Police Department’s Reconstruction Team responded and took over the investigation with help from the American Canyon Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.

The cause of the collision, including whether a vehicle was involved, was still under investigation, according to Napa police Sgt. Aaron Medina.

“We are seeking any information leading up to and after the collision, including dash camera footage or home surveillance video,” Medina said. “The bicyclist was wearing a gray t-shirt, black shorts and black shoes. He was riding a gray road bike.”

Police said they would like to speak with anyone who saw the bicyclist in the area of Wine Country Avenue between 7:30 p.m. and 8:42 p.m. Tuesday and asked them to contact Officer Tom Helfrich at 707-257-9422 or [email protected].
