DUI Suspected In Fiery Temecula Hydrant Crash, CHP Says
TEMECULA, CA — Emergency responders raced to a Morgan Hill neighborhood overnight where a Temecula man—suspected of DUI—crashed a stolen SUV into a fire hydrant, California Highway Patrol reported.
Shortly after 12:15 a.m., the as-yet unidentified 46-year-old man drove into a fire hydrant on the 33000 block of Calafia Street in Temecula. According to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, the vehicle was immediately disabled from the crash and caught fire.
The driver was seriously injured and was taken by ground ambulance to Inland Valley Medical Center due to his injuries, CHP spokesperson Mike Lassig told Patch.

Engines remained at the scene for about an hour after the crash, along with Rancho Water technicians, who arrived to shut off the hydrant. The neighborhood’s water was shut off for the duration of the incident.
Lassig told Patch that the 2017 Dodge Durango involved in the fiery crash was registered in Winchester and reported stolen. No arrests have been made, and charges for DUI are pending.
