Mass. Man Faces Charges After Concord Drunken Driving Chase: NHSP

CONCORD, NH — A man from Massachusetts was arrested and scheduled to be arraigned on Monday after being accused of drunken driving during a chase through Bow and Concord.

Around 1:45 a.m., a New Hampshire State Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and defective equipment on Interstate 93 north in Bow. The driver, later identified as Richard Gomez, 37, of Lawrence, MA, was accused of failing to stop and driving up to 110 mph during an ensuing chase, according to Amber Lagace, the public information officer for the department.

“The operator exited the interstate in the city of Concord and was having severe lane control issues and driving on the wrong side of Loudon Road for a brief period of time,” she said. “The pursuit ended when the operator abandoned his vehicle at an apartment complex and fled on foot.”

Gomez was arrested after being apprehended by the trooper’s K-9 partner, “Mando,” after a short foot pursuit. He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct, reckless operation, disobeying an officer, operating after suspension, and resisting arrest or detention. Gomez also had two active bench warrants in New Hampshire.

Gomez refused bail and was booked for an arraignment in Concord District Court on Monday.

Gomez was arraigned by video after being held. He requested a lawyer, court paperwork stated. A second aggravated driving under the influence charge was also added to the case file at arraignment.

According to court records, Gomez has had six criminal cases since 2020 in New Hampshire, as well as a domestic violence petition issued against him in January.

State police also arrested Gomez after an incident in Hooksett on Sept. 4, 2023. He was charged with reckless operation, resisting arrest or detention, driving after revocation or suspension, false report to law enforcement, and three counts of disobeying an officer. He was arraigned on Oct. 5, 2023, but failed to appear.

In the domestic petition, a temporary order was issued against Gomez on Jan. 30, 2024, and sent to police in Lawrence, MA. A hearing in family court is slated for Feb. 27.
