Drone Carrying 5 Kg Heroin Recovered From Punjab Village Along India-Pakistan Border

In a joint operation, the Punjab Police and Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday recovered a drone from a field near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district along with 5 kg of heroin.

The hexacopter, which had entered Indian territory with the contraband concealed in a white packet, was shot down by illuminating bombs launched by the BSF.

A hexacopter is a small remote-controlled drone with six blades that go around on top like a helicopter. It is used primarily to film or photograph things from the air.

 “Tarn Taran Police in a joint search operation with BSF have recovered a hexacopter drone equipped with modern technology and packets containing heroin weighing 5 kg from fields near the Indo-Pak border,” Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav tweeted on Friday.

Drone recovered 2 km from Indo-Pak border

Yadav said that the unmanned aerial vehicle was recovered from Khemkaran, just 2 km from the Indo-Pak border.

He further said that Punjab Police had provided pin-pointed inputs to BSF after observing the drone movement along the border on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

“The blue and black-coloured hexacopter (model – E616S) along with five packets of heroin weighing 5.60 kg tied to it with black tape was found lying in the agricultural land of a local resident,” the DGP said.

Probe on to find intended recipients

Yadav also revealed that a preliminary probe suggests the drone was equipped to lift a substantial weight.

As per officials, investigations are on to trace the individuals who were the intended recipients of the consignment.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 21-C, 23, 27-A and 29 of the NDPS Act and Sections 10, 11 and 12 of the Aircraft Act at Khemkaran police station in Tarn Taran.

Three drones recovered in Punjab in November

On November 28, two Pakistani drones were gunned down by the BSF along the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts. The two hexacopters were carrying around 10 kg of heroin recovered by the BSF troops. 

On November 30, a broken quadcopter drone was recovered from the village Van Tara Singh in Khalra in Tarn Taran.
