7 Leap Day Babies Born At Long Beach Hospital
LONG BEACH, CA — Seven babies joined the club of those with the rarest birthday in the world at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Long Beach this year.
Leap Day only occurs once every four years the odds of being born on the day is one in 1,641, according to MemorialCare. Each baby born at the Long Beach hospital on Thursday was given a special keepsake frog beanie to make the day even more memorable.
“It’s great to have our baby girl with us today,” said Rey Herrera, father of Lila, one of Miller Children’s & Women’s seven leap babies. “My wife and I didn’t realize that it was Leap Day when Lila was born until the doctor and nurses pointed it out to us. We were shocked, excited, and just so happy. We’re mostly excited to be able to hold her in our arms.”

The Long Beach MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital helps deliver nearly 6,000 babies every year. The hospital was recognized as a “High Performing” hospital in maternity care, the highest rating, by U.S. News & World Report.
“We see on average 10 – 15 babies born a day, and every day is a special day,” said Lisa Delong, M.D., OBGYN, MemorialCare Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach. “But today is extra special for seven of our families, with this one in every four-year birthday. We do anticipate a
few more families to join this special birthday today and can’t wait to meet them.”
