2 Family Dollars Want Packaged Liquor Licenses From Joliet
JOLIET, IL — Rochelle Saenz with Family Dollar came up with the idea of selling alcohol at two of her Joliet stores as a great way to increase Family Dollar’s revenue sources, but the Joliet City Council is getting ready to reject her idea.
The Council will vote on the resolutions at Tuesday night’s meeting.
During Monday’s pre-council session, city manager Beth Beatty told everyone that Joliet city officials are recommending a no-vote on the Class C liquor licenses. The two Family Dollar stores are a magnet for Joliet Police Department calls, the Council heard.

The Family Dollar at 861 N. Larkin Ave. had 104 Joliet police calls last year, while the Family Dollar on the east side at 454 East Cass Street had 219 police calls for service — including several serious crimes at both of these Joliet Family Dollar businesses.
The Class C liquor license is for packaged alcohol sales only.
